Course overview
Challenging behavior can feel personal, disruptive, and exhausting, but behavior is often a child’s clearest available form of communication. In this two-hour self-paced course, early-childhood educators will learn to interpret behavior through a needs-based lens using Glasser’s Five Basic Needs: Survival, Love and Belonging, Power, Freedom, and Fun. Participants will examine how unmet needs may appear in children’s behavior, explore why punishment alone often fails to create lasting change, and practice selecting proactive, relationship-centered responses. Through narrated instruction, classroom scenarios, readings, and practical application activities, learners will leave with strategies they can use to redesign routines, strengthen classroom environments, and respond to children with greater curiosity and intention.
Certificate Included for STARS Annual Training
Upon successful completion of the course, including the required instructor feedback component, learners will receive a certificate to upload to MERIT. Course rosters are submitted to MERIT by the instructor at the end of each month. Please allow 2–3 business days for certificate processing. Need your certificate sooner? Email us, and we’ll do our best to expedite it.
